LINKS Project

A Unified Transportation Clearinghouse

   Insight Enterprises, Inc., Peninsula Center for Independent Living (IEPCIL) with funds received through a grant from the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities has established a Clearinghouse on available transportation services for the disabled in Virginia.

Transportation Need

Transportation has been identified as a major barrier that prevents people with disabilities from living independently. The lack of transportation impacts the ability of people with disabilities to secure employment, increase education and to fully participate in their communities. The lack of reliable information on the transportation needs of the disabled makes it difficult  for State and local government to develop comprehensive and effective programs and policies to meet the transportation  needs  of   its disabled citizens.   It is,  therefore,  necessary  to establish a Clearinghouse on available transportation services for the disabled in Virginia.

Mission

public hearings will be used to gather the  necessary data to help IEPCIL implement the Mission of  the  Project.  The  Project operates a computerized information system via its website.  Visitors to the site are able to obtain information  on  the Project, complete surveys or request reports on transportation availability, needs or trends throughout the State.

Collaborative Efforts

The LINKS Transportation Information Clearinghouse Project is a collaboration of the 16 Centers for Independent Living in Virginia, Transportation Authorities, private transportation providers and consumers.
